This year, Form 3 students will begin using the new HSP (Huraian Sukatan Pelajaran or Syllabus Specifications). When learning of international languages (Japanese, French & German) in Malaysian secondary schools was extended from the residential schools to the day schools in 2005, its curriculum also changes from 4 years to 5.
Thus, this year teachers in school has to cope with 3 different syllabi at the same time.
Form 1 to 3 Classes: New HSP
Form 4 Classes: Old Syllabus
Form 5 Classes: Top-UP Syllabus for Form 5
While the curriculum was expanded from 4 years to 5 in 2005, the new 5-year syllabus was only introduced in 2008. Thus, the need for a Top-UP syllabus to fill in the gap when the students reach Form 5 in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
The HSP for Form 1 to 4 has already been published. Teachers who have not got a copy yet, please contact BPK. HSP for Form 5 is expected to be published after the panel members meet for the last time early this year.
The new HSP was developed by a 10-member Panel headed by Boey Siew Inn sensei. My colleague TSUBOYAMA Yumiko sensei and I from JFKL sit in the Panel as advisors.
