10 out of the 20 schools proclaimed by the Ministry of Education Malaysia as 'High Performance School' on Jan 25, offer Japanese as an elective international language subject. Out of these 10 schools 9 are residential schools. The 10 schools are:-
1. SMK Sri Aman
2. SMS Tuanku Syed Putra
3. SM Sultan Abdul Halim
4. Malay College Kuala Kangsar
5. Sekolah Seri Puteri
6. Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah
7. Tunku Kurshiah College
8. Sekolah Dato' Abdul Razak
9. SMS Muzaffar Syah
10. Sekolah Tun Fatimah
